Welcome to W5 English.
"Teaching is an art; it is not a science." There's no formula; there's no guaranteed success. It's about connecting with students in a place that encourages their interests and passions. It's about being genuine, igniting a desire to learn, and discovering how to teach the way a student learns. That is the art of teaching. That is W5 Online English.
If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.

Our Academic Director: Robbie Earl
It's been years now since that brisk March morning. I found myself walking with my young son, Julian, to an English kindergarten nestled somewhere among the labyrinthine streets and alleyways that make up South Korea's capital, Seoul. I was headed to the kindergarten to cover for a teacher who, for an undisclosed reason, had yet to arrive from Canada. The teacher never did arrive, and I, somehow unwittingly, entered a career teaching ESL that has now spanned more than 20 years.
During those initial years of teaching in Korea, both publicly and privately, it quickly became evident that education for profit often comes at the cost of a student's ability to learn. This, among a list of other teaching practices I felt could use overhauling, was the catalyst that encouraged me to explore alternative teaching methods and ultimately leave an education system broken by standardization—the very thing it was built on—in favor of providing a space where students were free to explore relevant curriculum they helped choose at a pace right for them in a way they understood. It took years of teaching in most every imaginable situation before W5 English finally came to fruition as an in-person home tutoring service that promised to provide an affordable, alternative method to the standardized testing and teaching that have been promoting underachievement in our youth for far too long.
W5 English had no sooner begun when the Covid-19 pandemic threatened to derail it. In an effort to continue with my ESL students, I began W5 Online English. Initially, I wasn't convinced my methodology would translate to an online platform, but my concerns were quickly dispelled after the initial classes were met with the approval of both students and, to my relief, parents alike. Looking forward, my hope is for W5 Online English to always remain aligned with our ever-evolving times. Our commitment to teaching students in a way they learn will remain our priority because we believe all students deserve a promising tomorrow.
